New Elgeyo-Marakwet power line to be commissioned in November

4th November, 2014

Electricity supply in Elgeyo-Marakwet County is set to improve following plans to commission a new high voltage power line in November this year which is expected to cost the Company Shs.135 million.

Kenya Power Deputy Regional Manager for North Rift, Mr. Nicholas Temoet said construction of the 40 kilometer power line from Eldoret in the nearby Uasin Gishu is currently at 60% completion stage.

He said the anticipated improved service will bring reprieve to traders in the county who recently voiced their complaints through Governor Hon. Alex Tolgos protesting of recent power outages that affected their businesses.

“Elgeyo-Marakwet’s current power supply network is served from Eldoret via Fluorspar power feeder which also feeds Baringo County and Uasin Gishu East. This line stretches over 800 kilometers making it susceptible to faults causing frequent power failures” he added.
