Fallen trees damage power lines causing outages in parts of Nairobi

Nairobi, April 15, 2020

Power supply has been disrupted in parts of Nairobi and its environs after the heavy rains this evening caused damages on the Kenya Power electricity network.

The heavy rains uprooted trees which fell on sections of electricity feeders serving several City estates.

Some of the areas affected by the outages included Kitisuru, Nyari, Runda, Gigiri Githurai, Loresho Eastleigh, Kangemi, Gachie and parts of Kileleshwa.

General Manager in charge of Network Management, Eng. Charles Mwaura, said the Company has deployed emergency teams who are currently battling to remove the trees and branches on power lines for speedy restoration of electricity supply to customers.

“In some instances, it will not be possible to restore supplies tonight due to severity of the damage and the intricate nature of repairs and replacement of broken conductors,” said Eng. Mwaura.

The Company is urging patience from affected customers as the repair teams strive to restore power supply.
