Press Release - Police arrest 9 found in possession of stolen transformers

Nairobi, Tuesday, 29th January 2019….The Police in conjunction with Kenya Power security officers have arrested nine people in Nairobi for being in possession of stolen transformers as the utility intensifies efforts to reduce issues of theft. 

Martin Sikunzi, Elisha Mgusi, Thomas Kongo, John Njuguna, Alex Kabwere, Keneth Gichango, Joseph Wanjiku, Evans Kiguta and Francis Kamau were arrested at a business premise in Kariobangi.

They were found with assorted electrical equipment suspected to have been stolen from Kenya Power including 10 transformers, 800 liters of transformer oil and electricity cables. The suspects have been detained at Muthaiga Police Station.

In a separate incident, two suspects, Stephen Maina and Vincent Sisia, were arrested at Joska area in Nairobi for vandalising a power line whereas another suspect, Gordon Otieno, was arrested constructing an illegal power line at Sabaki village in Tana River County.

Kenya Power has engaged the Police, the local administration, and local communities to help protect its equipment as well as address issues of electricity theft.
