Kenya Power donates Sh8 Million to support needy students

Nairobi, 13th October 2017……Kenya Power has enhanced its partnership with both Starehe Girls and Boys Centres by boosting its Education Endowment Fund for the two schools to Sh8 million.

Since it was established, the Fund has seen 16 students benefit from fully paid sponsorship for their school fees. Currently, 13 students are studying in the two Centres under full sponsorship from the Fund.

The Company established the Fund for Starehe Girls in 2008 and one for Starehe Boys Centre in 1998. Over the years, Kenya Power has been gradually increasing its contribution and the number of students benefiting has steadily risen.

Speaking yesterday during a ceremony where Kenya Power presented a Sh2 million cheque to Starehe Boys Centre to boost the Fund, Managing Director & CEO Ken Tarus, PhD said the Company’s partnership with the two schools would eventually attract other well-wishers to help increase access to quality education among needy students in the country.

“Education is one of Kenya Power’s key Corporate Social Investment (CSI) pillars and as such very close to the Company’s heart. It is therefore an area which we are devoted to and which we strive to improve,” he said.

Annually, Kenya Power channels one per cent of its net profit towards CSI programmes. The Company has recently adopted a new CSI policy which prioritizes education programmes by allocating 60 per cent of the CSI budget to towards this course.
