Man arrested for assaulting Kenya Power staff

...........Police in Mumias are investigating an incident in which a customer assaulted two staff of Kenya Power after they disconnected his electricity supply for non-payment.Suleiman Wekesa was arrested at Shianda Market in Kakamega County on Friday and booked at Shianda Police Post.

He was released today on a cash bail of Sh20,000 pending hearing of the case at Mumias Chief Magistrate’s Court that will take place on June 30, 2016.

Kenya Power recently launched a campaign aimed at sealing loopholes for loss of company revenue through unpaid bills and illegal connections.

The exercise is particularly targeted at ensuring that all pending bills are settled and illegal lines are weeded from the network to boost reliability in power supply.

Elsewhere, two suspects, Edwin Barasa Ochieng and Betty Njeri Mwaura who are agents of M/S Vantage Contractors were arrested at Mangu trading centre in Kiambu for extorting money from members of the public before installing prepaid meters. The appeared before Gatundu Law Court today morning.

In Bondo, authorities are investigating an incident that occurred on Thursday where a 25kVA transformer that was serving Manyonge primary school at Nyawita, Bondo sub-county in Siaya County was vandalized.
